A Continuing Education Program for Nurses The McDougall Program The McDougall Program is a series of classes designed to help health professionals and the public understand the role of diet in healing and managing disease. The program speaks to the importance of the science of nutrition as well as its key role in the health practices. It expands upon the ground-breaking books by Dr. John McDougall including The McDougall Program; 12 Days to Dynamic Health; McDougall's Medicine: A Challenging Second Opinion; The McDougall Program for Maximum Weight Loss; The New McDougall Cookbook; The McDougall Program for Women, and The McDougall Program for a Healthy Heart. Each class provides a step in understanding the comprehensive body of knowledge regarding starch (the importance of unrefined carbohydrates) and vegetables as contributors to our health. The Program emphasizes the detrimental effects of fats in the diet and explains the impact fats have had on contributing to the obesity increase in the United States over the past 20 years, especially the rise of obesity in children. Lectures are based on the research of Dr. McDougall and a variety of other experts in the nutrition and medical fields. These include the research done by Dr. McDougall himself as well as many other well respected research leaders including the work done by Dr. T. Colin Campbell on excess protein, Dr. Esselstyn on heart disease and a critical analysis of the other studies including the comprehensive Nurses’ Health Study done by Harvard. Discussions include critical thinking methods to approach all research in the field of nutrition and health. The program outlines the science behind certain diseases influenced by excess calories from fat and animal based protein, refined carbohydrates, excess sodium, unnecessary vitamins, and more. The core lectures are taught by Dr. John McDougall, MD, Mary McDougall, Jeff Novick, RD, Alec Isabeau, DC, and Doug Lisle, PhD. This comprehensive course is taught in 5 or 10 day schedules and offers continuing education hours accordingly. Topics also include:
