Letha-

I like your comment, "Life is good."...........what more could we want than that? I think that, if we can say that more days than we cannot, then we are incredibly fortunate. AND it's even better when we know it and can say it.

I am SO lucky to have friends and family and, now, peace of mind.

Have a wonderful week, my new friend! :)

Amy

Letha,
When I was in high school, we had two black cats, they actually were twins in a litter of Tabbies.
We have one that lives three houses over and plays with the cat next door. They are so funny to watch together.

Lindas, Amy, Raven, Emmy, Thank you all for stopping by. I love waking up to find comments on my journal.
=================================

Good morning all. I’m on plan and planning to stay that way.

We’ve got a wind storm rolling into the Washington coast today. Couple of years ago we lost power here for the better part of the week after a wind storm. So if you don’t hear from me for a few days you’ll know I don’t have electricity/internet. Not to worry, we are well prepared for this eventuality.

Hi Letha,
I love a good storm. But I am curious, if you lose power for a few days, what are you planning to eat if you can't make more rice?

Hi Yomom,
Well, as soon as the power goes out I’ll pack whatever warm rice is in the cooker into thermoses to get me through a couple of meals. Beyond that I’ve got a couple different options. I’ve got an Osburn wood stove that I can cook on, plus a really cool little coffee can stove that is great because it will burn any kind of wood or twigs you have lying around so you don’t need to worry about finding special fuel or running out of fuel in an emergency situation. I’d probably cook white rice instead of brown since it cooks faster. If it went on for several days and I ran out of lettuce I’d switch to the canned & dehydrated veggies/soups we have stored. :)

Hi Letha,

I remember the storm you speak about a couple years ago.

My family had a little reunion in Cannon Beach, Oregon that year. There were sections of forest on the drive from Portland to the coast where acres of GIGANTIC evergreens were laid over on the ground like some monstrous sneeze snapped them like toothpicks. I was awestruck at what wind could do that and what it must have sounded like when that happened.

Who says the Pacific coast doesn't have hurricanes???

Bunker down and be safe!

OMG - I'm getting so nervous! I'm flying from Phoenix to Seattle tomorrow morning. I hope the worst of this has passed by then. :(

Hi Becky, It’s pretty calm around here this morning so hopefully you won’t have any problems.

WeeSpeck, We learned a lot from that storm two years ago. The most alarming thing was the breakdown in communication. Both land lines and cell phones including 911 were nonfunctional for days and the only radio station we could get here was out of Astoria. They had a tree fall on their satellite dish which is how they got information and so their only source of real information was hourly reports from the Sheriff’s office up the street – but Astoria is in a different county/state from us. We had no idea which roads were open to leave the area and it was difficult to get gas as you needed to go to a station that had a generator, wait in a long line and pay cash. Since then there have been a lot of classes & meetings for ham operators.
===============================================

So we survived the worst of the wind storm. Never lost power. Our cable is partially out but I have internet so I’m happy. After it gets light we can go for a drive and see the damage.

I’m on plan and planning to stay that way. Still eating rice, lettuce, & apples. I’ll check back tomorrow.
Letha

Letha, I'm so glad there was no damage or hassle for you and Mary. Take care.

Wow!

It looks like I've missed quite a bit since I've been pretty much on hiatus from the boards for a spell.

I'm glad you came out of that storm alright. It sounds like it could have been a lot more serious than it turned out.

Stay safe, and keep doing all you do. Seriously, you are one of the reasons I don't think I could ever permanently leave here. :-D

Kirk, Raven, Sksamboots, Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment.

I’m doing well this morning. On plan and planning to stay that way. More rice, lettuce, and apples on the menu today.

The only real wind damage we saw was my neighbor’s canopy flipped over. Thought I’d share a snap. I’ve got tons of mushrooms growing in my yard now so I’ve got a few pics of those as well.
I’ll check back tomorrow.

Hi Yomom & good morning all. I’m on plan and planning to stay that way. I’m down 3.4 pounds for the week and happy about that. Here is a link to my weight loss stats for the past 14 months and also my weight loss graph from the ticker factory. I’ll check back tomorrow. :)
