Hello

I love diet coke but I have cut it out recently and have been drinking alot of water, but I hate the taste of regular water so i have been putting mio liquid enhancer into the water to give it some flavor, I know its not perfect, but its makes the water go down easier. Has anyone heard anthing really bad about this product. FYI
I have been on mcdougall since monday and I feel GREAT.

According to information from their website it contains two artifical sweetners, sucralose and acesulfame K. I would not touch the stuff.

My wife had picked some up, but I did start reading about what was included. I avoid this, but to flavor up my water I drink the flavored La Croix sparkling water.

Quote:
The water additive contains Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Red 40, Blue 1, Malic Acid, and Propylene Glycol. You all know how I feel about artificial colors and sweeteners. I’m not the only one who has problems with the ingredients, either.

Ditto! I don't touch anything with artificial sweeteners, but then I absolutely love ice cold water.

I have seen lots of recipes floating around online for fruity water... cutting up some strawberries, lemons, limes or even mint leaves and adding them to a pitcher of water. I haven't tried it, but it looked refreshing. I also love iced tea with no caffeine.

Also, I think that after you get used to drinking water, you lose the whole "I don't like the way it tastes" thing. I drink 1 cup of decaf coffee in the mornings, but then it is nothing but water the rest of the day.

I am and always have been a water drinker. I never thought about whether it "tasted" or not -- it is cold and wet and satisfying and I guess that is as far as I got. Now, bottled water tastes - ick - it tastes like plastic (and bottled water is just someone else's tap water put in a bottle and marked up in price). But, tap water or filtered tap water? Cold, wet and satisfying is all I think about how it tastes.

I wonder if this is something that you just get used to -- thinking that liquid beverage has to "taste" like soda has a definite taste to it -- is it the absence of "taste" that people find unsettling? I don't know - guess I never really thought about it before.

Interesting.

Sharon

Yeah, sharonbikes, thanks for pointing that out about bottled water. It's the biggest scam.

For anyone interested in a pretty darn good doc on the subject, Tapped is a real eye-opener. Kudos to the states that have bottle laws (so you can get a little back to turn in your plastic bottles).

We don't have the worst water where I live, but I have a faucet filter and the water tastes great.

To the OP, if the flavoring gets you to drink water instead of diet coke, I don't think it's the worst thing in the world. Reserve your right to your taste buds changing over time:-)

Celestial seasonings fruit teas make great ice tea without added sweeteners. Korean barley tea is good too, especially in summer. You get used to drinking unsweetened drinks pretty fast once you start.
That fake sweet stuff is nasty and bad for you.

I am another person that doesn't much care for plain water but I'm hooked on sparkling water. You might try that. I would avoid the chemical cocktail.

From: http://www.worldwatch.org/node/5063
"In industrial countries with highly regulated water supplies, tap water has been proven to be just as safe, or safer, than its commercial counterpart. In the United States, regulations concerning bottled water are generally the same as for tap water, but are weaker for some microbial contaminants. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which regulates bottled water at the federal level, permits the product to contain certain levels of fecal matter, whereas the Environmental Protection Agency does not allow any human waste in city tap water. Bottled water violations are not always reported to the public, and in most cases the products may be recalled up to 15 months after the problematic water was produced, distributed, and sold."

I'll stick with my filtered tap water.

My roommate gave me to caffinated Neo's. I've been drinking them in the morning instead of coffee. I drank the last of it today though and can't bring myself to buy them myself when tap water is free. Personally I think if it's to much to drink plain water right now and you want the Neo but are otherwise eating healthy then do it if it helps you make the switch to a healthier way of eating. Maybe try putting less and less of the Neo into your water until your drinking plain... just thinking out loud here. I used to hate water like really hate it. A couple years ago though I started this new diet and dicided to start drinking water. I ended up ditching that diet because it was really unhealthy and dangerous but kept the water habbit. I still don't really like the taste per say since there really isn't one. I pretty much chug a 32oz bottle 4 times a day. Now if I don't drink all my water I get a headache the next day from dehydration. Sorry for such a long post but I hope it helps.

Audrey

Why not try flavoring your water with a lttle unsweetened cranberry juice or pom juice. Not a lot but maybe one ounce in a large glass will do it. I don't do artificial sweeteners anymore they just aren't good for you.

I can't drink ice cold water so I drink my water straight out of our distiller. That water has absolutely no taste, it just feels "clean". If you have good citywater why not make a big pitcher of herbtea in the morning and drink that throughout the day, maybe with icecubes if you like it cold.
