I have been enjoying the McD woe for several months. While I still experiment, I believe I have a sluggish colon. I still occassionally have constipation problems. There are times when I am very regular 2-3 x /day with large volume. Then for some reason, I get very sluggish which also seems to promote more hunger. (sorry if that is tmi.... :| ) It seems as though black bean & garbonzo beans in particular may contribute, but I'm not sure.

I'm thinking I should look into the Digestive Tune Up. I read the forum very regularly, but don't find much about that book.

Early on, did any of you follow that program? I have not yet purchased the book, but was wondering if you may have tried it and what results you saw.

I have the cookbook as well as the kindle version of The Starch Solution.

Thanks!

Sandy

The digestive tune up book is a step by step tour of your digestive system starting from your mouth all the way through. It describes the effects different foods have at each step along the way. It's a wonderful book that is way under the radar and filled with information everyone needs to have. It's most highly recommended.

Yes, it's a great book (not a program), and I especially needed it. I am with you all the way on the sluggish colon. And I do think beans contribute to my sluggishness. I found it was kidney, white beans, and especially lentils, but basically all beans.

It helps me to eat more brown rice, more than I would normally eat with a meal, as a snack, to get bulk. I also still take Metamucil capsules for a few weeks at a time when I get sluggish. (I always found that Metamucil powder in liquid was even more constipating than anything!)

So read the book--it has a ton of great information in a very readable form.

Thanks so much Jim and Frozenveg. I ordered Digestive Tune Up from Amazon this morning. I will look forward to reading it. Sounds exactly like you said.....a little under the radar, but great information.

Frozenveg....thanks for the tip on brown rice. That may be a clue for me. There is something that is triggering a relief and that may be it. I'll have a heaping helping tonight.

Much to my surprise, I found out that potatoes are constipating for me, and I'm not the only one on this forum to discover that.

Since I eat potatoes every day, I had to experiment to find out how to keep things moving. I discovered that eating at least a cup of some kind of bean dish, containing either black or kidney beans, would help me "go" the next day. So, for me, beans are not constipating; on the contrary, they supply just the right amount of fiber to keep me regular.

I eat a pretty good bit of brown rice, but I've not noticed that it makes much difference to me one way or the other. It's beans that are the key to regularity.

Thanks, Nettie.

I guess every "body" is different.

I have been okay eliminating beans and having brown rice, sweet potatos and oatmeal. Tonight we are having potato pizza from the Starch Solution. Tomorrow night we are having "sloppy joes" made from kidney beans, brown rice, and mushrooms.

Until my book arrives, I'll continue to experiment.

I saw and excerpt from the books stating that sometimes "priming the pump" is recommended. I'll be interested in what that is and if maybe it would improve the situation.

Have a great day!!!!
