Just read Dr. Esselstyn book Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease. Very encouraging! since I have heart disease, and this woe can stop and possible reverse disease. My question is: What about scar tissue? I have had 5-by-passes in 2005. Will the scar tissue continue to grow and block my arteries?

According to Ornish and some others the answer is no, the scar tissue will not grow. However, scar tissue is a healing response to an injury. The point is to have a healthy lifestyle and consume food that do not promote injury to the arteries. (This is the short answer)

Thank you!!! Have been feeling so good about being able to stop this diesase. I have been in for a heart-cath 5 times in less than 2 1/2 yrs w/5-stints. Knowing I can stop this is beond what I can express. But I was worried about the scar-tissue. Thank you again!

lverickson, you have every right to be worried. And you need to be diligent, in my opinion, extremely diligent about your WOE. I wasn't and ended up having a second heart attack. I suggest that you do whatever it takes and go through Dr. McDougall's 10 day program in Santa Rosa. There is nothing like the full immersion the 10 days will give you to set you up fully on the right track. It is a lot less stressful than another trip to the cath lab and cheaper too. The program is close to 100% Esselstyn diet. From my experience there, the program made a dramatic difference in my overall health. I am off many meds and the ones I still take are at half the dosages.

Formation of scar tissue is largely individual... some form lots of scar tissue and some form very little...
