Why does the program not have a substitute for sour cream, when there is one on the McDougall Made Easy recipe section?

Can you clarify your question? If there is a recipe on McDougall Made Easy, then it is on the program.

Do you mean a pre-made, bought at the store sour cream? Did you look in the Packaged Foods section (link top right of every page)?

In the Dairy Substitutes list:

http://drmcdougall.com/pack_rich_dairy.html

you'll see that there *are* store-bought sour cream substitutes listed, BUT there's also the warning on the page that these are higher fat products and should be used sparingly.

The McDougall Made Easy DVD is for the general overall McDougall health program and allows for some tofu on occasion. The weight loss part of the program is called Maximum weight loss and does not allow tofu.

The main difference between the 2 McDougall programs is that the regular program allows oil-free bread and flour products and tofu plus occasional higher fat plant product like olives and avocadoes, while the Maxium Weight Loss part of the program does not.

Here is Mary McDougall's Tofu Sour Cream recipe:

TOFU SOUR CREAM

Use as a substitute for dairy sour cream. Will keep in the refrigerator about 2 weeks.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Chilling Time: 2 hours
Servings: Makes 1 ½ cups

1 12.3 ounce package silken tofu
2 ½ tablespoons lemon juice
2 ½ teaspoons sugar
dash salt

Combine all ingredients in a food processor and process until smooth. Refrigerate at least 2 hours to allow flavors to blend
.........................................................

If you are doing the McDougall program to lose weight, it's a good idea to skip tofu until you reach your goal. I'm learning this the hard way. Every time I eat a higher fat plant food like tofu or avocadoes, etc. my weight loss stalls. Just remember that every recipe you see on here is not for Maximum Weight Loss. Check guidelines for Maximum Weight Loss on the Maximum Weight Loss section of this forum.
