Hi, LK. You might want to try some ginger tea. I just found a neat thing to do. Peel the ginger and then put a little piece in a garlic press, if you have one. Then pour boiling water over it and add a little sweetner. Hope that helps and you feel better!

oh that sounds so good to me, I am going to try it now. I have a new hunk of ginger too, and a garlic press!
loves kale, I just wanted to stop by and say I love kale too, it si about my favorite green.
Son just stopped by and told me to tell you about the making natural quinine water with white grapefruits rinds to cure your throat problem. and he quickly looked up the Youtube video for you too! I just watched it and you can skip to 1 min 11 seconds to start learning about the quinine water. Jen on the video is calling it a bronchitis remedy and it is an expectorate. Son has tried this and it worked for him!

Hi Loveskale... Hope your Doctor visit comes soon, so you can feel better.
Guess what, I got my kale seeds in the mail and I am gong to plant them this weekend.
They are the protuguese kale.

I will be thinking of you as I put them in the garden.

Thank you all for the responses! It means a lot to me! :D

Simoncat, that tea sounds like a good idea. I LOVE ginger tea. I used to love the yogi brand until they started slipping stevia or something like it into their tea. They don't list it but I can definitely TASTE it, and it gives me headaches so I know it's there, lol. I guess making it from scratch is a better idea, I have a ton in my freezer.

Carolynne, thank you to you and your son. I will consider the grapefruit water!

Blondie, thank you!

Kittyadventures, you are so sweet! I will be thinking of you planting kale! :)

Today was a good day. Went to a veg potluck and although there wasn't a whole lot I could eat our mango black bean salad was a hit and disappeared rather quickly. Now that I mention it I know I'll have to post the recipes.

This recipe is very special to me. It is one of the first vegan recipes I ever made, but also it was one of my mom's favourite. Before she died she told me that when she got out of the hospital she wanted me to make it. I guess I haven't made it in a couple of years for that reason.

Anyways, here it is, my olive-oil free mango black bean salad

3 ripes mangos, diced
4 plum tomatoes, diced
1 small red onion, minced
1 jalapeno, minced
1 can black beans, rinsed
1 or 2 avocados, diced
1/4 cup lime juice
1 tsp ground cumin
1 1/2 tbsp dried basil OR 3 tbsp fresh (Or more, to taste)
1 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
1/2 tsp sugar

Mix everything together. Serve. Watch it disapear.

I'm sure you can leave the avocado out ot make it MWL friendly. :)

I tried some cold medicine today and it caused some really bad chest pain. I don't think I'll be trying that again.

Anyways, I am doing an experiement. SC pointed out to me that a lot of mainstream shampoos and conditioners have nafarious things in htem, perhaps that's why my hair is falling out. I tried some natural stuff that I used for camping and guess what, only a few hair came out. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this will solve the problem!

Anyways, enjoy your extra hour of sleep everyone!

So for now I'm experimenting with a few things that I've observed with my challenge:

1) I need to eat some fruit. Not only does this curve sugar cravings, it also helps my IBS.
2) Drink more water. When I cut out sugary teas I drank a whole lot less. I need to remember to drink something, even though I am thirsty I just don't go for water. I never advocate "drink x cups of water a day" though, I think that's crazy. If you're thirsty, drink water. If you're not thirsty, don't drink water. Well, I'm thirsty, just not drinking water.
3) Exercise a little. My schedule is hectic and I need to make this a priority.
4) Eat something regular plan every day. If I don't, I'll vanish into nothing!
5) Watch the salt. If I eat too much I can feel the whole body swell up. Yuck.
6) REST. My life can be go-go-go. I may have energy to walk for 7 hours one day, but I need some down time or I'll burn out.

Let's see how this works.

I also need to find "Coffee Anonymous", anyone heard of this?

B: Hashbrowns w/ salt
L: Curdito, homemade veggie burger on FFL bun
D: black beans w/ veggies, cilantro-lime rice, and an arepa. I CAN'T WAIT
S: Half a pomegranite, some raspberries, 1 apple
D: Had a coffee. Basically self-medicating. PMS + flu = low iron and general fatigue. I have so much I need to get done and I simply need to stay awake. Cold medicine causes me problems, apparently. The lesser of two evils is, I used only 1 tsp of sugar.
WATER, chamomile tea w/ honey

The other half of that pomegranite might call me later. :)

EDIT: The pomegranite did not call me. Also, here's a picture of dinner with a recipe:

I forgot to mention, some hair did fall out today in the shower. I really just want to keep track of this. I am going to give the new shampoo/conditioner some time.

I saw my doctor today. I got some medicine for my chest infection. I hope to be feeling better soon.

I am doing very well to stay on-plan. Not much to say.

That recipe will be perfect for my son; he loves black beans and I bought a container of mangoes. So thanks again for your great recipes.

I'm trying the Indian 21 day challenge and tonight I made chapattis for the first time, as well as udad dal. The chapattis were fun, but I stubbed my toe on the garam masala.

I hope your immune system kicks in and you're feeling better very soon!

I hope the shampoe really helops.

I was just noticing this week that my hair is starting to get and look thicker since the elimination of the coffee and teas. IT is really a nice thing.

Hey Kitty, I pm'd Gweithgar when she posted in the "noone else can post unless asking a question spot", about hair loss, I started using sufate free shampoo about 14 mos. ago. I liked how it made my hair feel, but I started noticing after a time that I was losing hair, not clumps of it, I have a lot of hair anyway. I was wondering what could be causing it, then I decided to try a different shampoo a while ago, lo & behold, I have stopped losing my hair & the little thin spot is gone. So not sure about the caffeine thing, I do drink it once in a while, but for myself I think it was the shampoo. And Funny, Gweithgar said she had been using a sulfate-free shampoo & conditioner as well, just a different brand than me. Interesting, huh?

Hi Janus, I find the shampoe thing really interesting... i do know that some shampoes used to or maybe still do have formaldehyde in them and that stuff just kills my hair. Regarding the caffeine apparently green tea is a known component in hair loss... but when I stopped drinking all caffeine drinks in an effort to lower my blood pressure the last little bit.. a side benefit was that I stopped losing my hair... not that it was much but it was enough to make me worry.

and I posted it on that star mcdougaller question but I got erased because I am not a star mc douggaler. LOL.

I am really intrigued though about the shampoe and am thinking I might want to try that too... just because of the whole gluten allergy and that I have always had baby fine hair so anything that helps me keep as much as I can is a good thing.

It is interesting. I have used green tea & coffee & never had a problem that I noticed with my hair. It was a bit scary. I just happened to change shampoo, it was kind of a fluke, & looking at my hair today, definitely a difference, it is shinier & I have a lot of it. I really need a hair cut but I have to wait until I have some extra $$. Of course now that it is chillier, I want to start drinking coffee again, I dont like tea, but just on the off chance that it causes a problem, I dont want to take a chance. I have not used it since April I think. And actually, I dont really like it that much anyway so why bother to drink it?
I would think stay away from the sulfate free ones, they must put something in to replace the sulfate and it must be not so good.
Yeah, I noticed a lot of people got deleted, cuz we dont know anything.

Starchbeet,

I hope that you two enjoy that recipe! It is one of my favourites. I guess I just forgot how much I liked it. I stopped eating it because, as I mentioned, it reminds me of my mom being in the hospital and that was not a good time. Oh well. I can eat it and remember the good times with her! :)

Kitty & Janus,

I am interested in learning what shampoo you use. I switch to an all-natural but gluten-free shanpoo. I don't know if that makes a difference since a gluten reaction is in your guy. But, we'll see.

My hair has stopped coming out in the shower, however it does come out a bit when I brush it. I guess time will tell. I don't think that it's even been a week.

I am quite happy with myself, I went to an event yesterday and I brought my own food. So, I ended up staying 100% (except for a little popcorn but I can get away with that I think  ) so, 95%?

Anyways, I'm happy. Not like there was anything vegetarian that I could eat there anyways. They were abysmal choices. Fafafel (Deep fried chickpeas that no one can confirm or deny if there used breadcrumbs), Indian food swimming in oil, or a simple hashbrown where you have to almost jump over the counter to stop them from adding dairy. Yum. Plus, a vegetarian pasta I couldn't eat, but they used less than 1/4 cup of vegetables!

Anyways, rant off! Have a good day everyone!
