Hi everyone,
Im kind of an oldie but newbie here.
I went on McDougall's diet from '87 til '93 the "early" years and now for 10days. I got discouraged with not enough "good" recipes back then and my family was NOT keen on it. My daughter who is now 24, was 5 years old til 11 or so. She remembers eating vegetarian but at 9 or 10 she did paper route and took her money and ate "junk". She couldnt handle our "stuff". She continued to eat very badly til she almost died around 20 or so. Her immune system was so far down. She then went healthy in terms of trying splenda in everything etc. but trying to still eat "healthy". She then ate in Europe mussels which she got food poisoning and it messed up her intestenal tract and so she really has to watch her diet. She stays completely away from dairy. She will ever so often maybe once every 2 months or so will have red meat a little bit. She will eat almond butter and milk, fruits and vegetables etc. now alot. BUT here is the kicker! 2 days ago she sent me that "study" on fruits and vege. not really helping breast cancer. She didnt send any note with it. Just a "something" to think about mama type thing". I wrote her back to tell her that I thought that the study was probably wrong and misleading somehow. THEN Dr. McDougall sends out today his rebuttal! It is great!
I will write to Dr. McDougall and tell him thank you so much for his quick rebuttal on this.
By the way, Ive been on this diet again for 10 days and I have lost 5lbs. I remember how good I felt on it and how fast I lost weight. I cant take any weight at all since Im only 5'0" tall.
By the way, my family is liking the food now and my husband is 49 now beginning to think of his "health" and eating "better". Boy...he use to eat awful and of course it trickled down. I havent been able to let go of the mayonaise as I couldnt back then either but it is literally the "only" thing.
Eziekel bread is a main stay in this home for years now. Changing to "organic" corn because of GMO concerns...so it seems getting "really" picky now.
Rambled enough...thanks for letting me share everyone.

This is wonderful!

I appreciate your story.

I attended a seminar back in 94' and was really into the program and felt great.

Now, I am starting over again. 13 years later. I've done the program off and on. Sometimes 80 percent and at other times not even close to that.

I can't believe it has been this long, but I say better late than never.

I would love to see Dr. McDougall's rebuttal. WOuld you mind posting the link? I'll go try an look for it. But, I do remember reading the study this week on line on the Health News section. I couldn't believe it.

Thanks for your inspirational story.

Sometimes we feel that if we are not 100% compliant, we will give up. However, when I was at the program three years ago, I observed a very obese patient in his 80's who comes on and off to the program. I wondered why he did not comply as he mentioned wanting to go back to Phillie for a cheesesteak sandwich...

McDougall indicated that he really had to have some measure of health to carry that weight at his age in terms of insulin absorption, etc. Of course, he was jeopardizing his health with all the weight but he was still benefitting from some compliance with the program.

So, lots of us are out there on and off the program. We just have to keep trying to make good choices with the guidance of one fine doctor, Dr. John McDougall, M.D.
