truthfully I have tweaked both plans...McD and Fuhrman somewhat. Much more green veggies, less starch and I can't stand the thought of oatmeal in the morning in this heat, so I do have a fruit and green smoothie everyday when I can. If I eat oatmeal with fruit I am starving an hour later. It seems to work for me and I went from 145 down to 115 and lower in the past few months. Today I guess was a somewhat cheat recipe because I am also following Becky with her blog on 1000 Vegan Recipes. I made a cucumber soup today and it called for 3/4 cup of cashews. I cut it down to 1/4 cup and left any oil out and it is delicious and nice and cold!!!! MMMM good! I am trying to gain some weight right now since i was at 110 and didn't want to go lower! :D

Ha ha! Nancy, please forgive me for including you with us dullards!!! :-D

I am a dullard!!!! Boring!!!! But that cucumber soup was good and I have leftovers. I don't belong to the CSA here but I get everyones leftovers so that works for me. Right now I have been looking up recipes online from Fatfreevegan since I have eggplant, zucchini and mushrooms to use up! Also had 3 cucumbers today which is why I made it, but cold food is really welcome right now. Tonite I made a fresh roma tomato sauce with chopped up skinned romas, garlic and some basil from the garden with whole wheat spaghetti. Dinner figured out!! We have no vampires in this house! Thankfully Ed likes garlic!!!

There is no one way to McDougall. As long as the main principles are met, that is what counts.

I do not disagree with that, Deb, but if a person's goal is weight reduction/management, monotony (as Dr. McD. has noted) is often very helpful.

That sounds like heaven. If winter would ever leave, I might try basil in the garden. We have such a late growing season here, so when everyone else is winterizing their gardens, I'll still be getting veggies from mine. I have never tried herbs though. I have seeds for lettuces and spinach but I havent tried them yet. I may need to buy some plants and see how I do. Will basil keep giving me basil or do I have to replant it as I go?

I plant some plants in the beginnning of the season and it lasts forever ...but we are in Az. It seems to bolt into flowerheads in this heat. I cut it back yesterday and it seems to be fine! I got a couple of tomato plants that I paid .50 apiece for and those are doing good, planted some roma tomatoes from seed and so far I have two tomatoes. I also planted a Big Boy and the plant looks good but that takes much longer but it is big with all kinds of blooms so we will see what happens!! So far it is doing good. i have chives, rosemary, mexican oregano and dill growing but the dill has to be harvested soon since it is bolting and an entire pot of parsley that I probably should have thinned out more but it looks healthy!!!! :D Also have some swiss chard, kale, etc growing but it is over 110 right now so who knows???

Also Dr. McDougall probably doesn't recommend nuts for those with heart conditions (Nancy) so for her they are off plan.

Jim....it's not an everyday food for me but I do use them on occasion for creaminess. Yes I had CAD, no heart attack, and Dr. F did get on my case with his "if you don't do your nuts everyday you will die suddenly of cardiac arrhythmia. My bypass due to the CAD was 16 years ago! The only thing i use daily is the ground flaxseed! :D

Nancy, if you remember, Jeff refuted Dr F's lack of nuts/cardiac arrhythmia claim in his forum years ago.

Also I would not worry about being 110 pounds or even going a little under, depending on your height. Maybe that is in fact your natural weight when eating a healthy diet.

I am sure you look perfectly healthy and not too thin! Just remember we live in a society where being overweight is normal.
