Hi Garbanzo,

Slothful again on Saturday, but could not add the session to make up for it Monday, so I am a little low this week:

starting 10/29
Thursday - fisherman's wharf up mason over columbus -36 minutes
Friday - Pac Bell - China Basin up 4th - 36 minutes = not sure how I cut off the 2 minutes
Saturday - nothing again
Sunday - Swim - 50 laps no rest stops 38.5 minutes. Getting pretty constants with that time.
MOnday - noon - aquatic park, around maritime museum, up Stockton - 39 minutes -
Tuesday - fisherman's wharf up Stockton - 36 minutes
Wednesday - China basin up 4th - 40 minutes

total - 225.5minutes

Enjoy the trail!

Mark

=======================================

It’s been a good week. I was able to make up all the miles I missed from being snowed in last week. I am loving Utah. Canyonlands National Park is gorgeous and it’s not too crowded this time of year. I started out at a campsite not too far from the public restrooms in an area set up to accommodate larger groups with multiple tents. And so of course I get some kind of outdoor experience group comprised of surly teenagers setting up near me right around dinner time. I knew that was not going to be good so I moved my tent to the other side of the campground with small single tent spaces and I couldn’t see or hear anyone else all evening. Here are a few snaps from my walk through the park.

Hi Daffodil,
No problem. I edited the results to include your minutes. Thanks for posting.

====================

I got to see Anasazi ruins walking through Beef Basin this afternoon which was interesting. Apparently the ancestral Puebloans farmed the area successfully for nearly 1000 years and then about 1300 AD they abruptly left the area. Climate change and declining crop yields are among the theories for this departure.

Yesterday was all about snakes. I saw seven and every single one looked completely different. Black, stripped, brown & orange, I really couldn’t identify them but I don’t think any of them were rattle snakes. Suffice it to say I’m being very careful about where I sit or where I put my hand on a rock. Here are some recent photos.
Garbanzo.

Hey G,

My uncle is a dentist in Sandy (30 mi south of Salt Lake). If your teeth start to hurt and you get up north, you could stop by and see him. He's very good, although he's like 80 now.

We did not get to Canyonlands when we went to visit him in 2002, but we did get to Brice (Bryce?) and Zion. The geology is stunning as shown by your photos. Make the most of it, There's not much between there and the Sierra Nevada, unless you like desert landscapes.

I'll be looking forward to your photos. Have a great week.

Mark

Hi Mark, My teeth are in good shape but tell your uncle hi for me. I do like desert landscapes and I especially like star gazing at night in the desert. smile

==============================

I woke up to a light dusting of snow this morning but it melted within an hour of sunrise. There are some stands of Aspen trees in full fall color here in Manti-LaSal. I heard some elk calling last night after dinner. I hope it was actual elk calling and not hunters making elk calling sounds. I haven’t seen any hunters or elk for that matter. I have spotted some wild turkeys. I told them it was a good idea to keep a low profile this time of year. Here are a few photos of the area.

Reminder: Please post your exercise minutes/miles tomorrow, Thursday. Thanks.

The highlight of my walk yesterday was Newspaper rock = prehistoric Indian rock art.

While taking advantage of the public restrooms at the recreational area I was chatting with a weather beaten old women who told me she'd been camping out near Hatch Point by herself for a couple of weeks and that she’d seen some pronghorn antelope. I’m going to keep my eyes peeled. Mostly I’ve just seen mule deer and jackrabbits. I’ve started seeing some horned toad lizards too in recent days.

This is a beautiful area. The only thing I don’t love about walking in an arid landscape is the amount of water you need to carry. I camel up whenever I get to a water source but I also carry a lot of water with me. Luckily the weather is mild, 77°F | 45°F, today.

Hi. I had a really busy week, and only walked 2 miles. My poor puppy was quite bored!

Happy Trails, Everybody!

It’s been raining all week so I did some walking in place to music in the house. My usual 20 minutes for the week. smile
