Whole Wheat Bread

I don't often think about eating bread. However, when I do and look at the store I find it pretty difficult to find a loaf of bread that is both 100% whole grain and does not have any added oils.
I'm talking about just a regular loaf of bread made from grains that have not been sprouted.
I guess I am just going to have to learn to make my own. I already do this for pizza dough and have learned that it really isn't much more effort or time than buying a ready made dough, or mix.
If anyone has a good recipe I would appreciate it. It does not need to be a quick bread. I will make it on the weekend and will gladly wait for it to rise if that helps the flavor and texture.
I'm hoping for something that I can slice and toast or make a veggie Sandwhich with.

The closet thing we can find

In a regular-type supermarket, the closet thing that we can find to bread made with whole grain flour and NO added oil is Thomas' 100% Whole wheat Mini Bagels.
However, I am NOT sure if they are truly McD-legal because they contain mono- and diglycerides, preservatives, and some other funny sounding stuff.
Here are their ingredients:
Whole wheat flour, water, cracked wheat, sugar, wheat gluten, wheat bran, salt, yeast, mono- and diglycerides, preservatives (calcium propionate, sorbic acid), cornmeal, guar gum, datem, citric acid, maltodextrin, algin, soy lecithin, and soy flour. _________________ `

There is a brand called Ezekiel something that is acceptable.
I have a whole wheat recipe that's good for four loaves and a pizza shell. I'll post it when I get home.

If you want to buy a loaf, look to see if you have a Great Harvest Bakery in town. It's a franchise. I can't make it as good as they can! They use fresh-ground wheat and it's delicious. They do use honey, though, so if you're avoiding that, this won't work for you. _________________ "If you're not hungry enough to eat an apple, you are not hungry." --Emma Fogt

Momof4,
That wasn't what I was asking for but I appreciate it. I'm thrilled to see their list of 5 simple ingredients and there is one close to where I live. I will certainly give this a try.

I highly recommend the no knead bread that's in the McDougall Plan. It's really very good and rediculously easy to make. I posted it on this thread:

I didn't think to mention that I also place my bread on a cooling rack when it comes out of the oven, cover with a bread towel and then cover with plastic bags. I allow it to cool most of the way like this and then remove the coverings and finish cooling. This produces a soft crust.
Also here are some quick bread recipes:

There is a great little bakery in Birmingham, AL called Big Sky Bread Company. From looking at the ingredients their 3-seed whole wheat bread is made without oil. It does have honey. It is delicious. Check out their website at bigskybread.com. They will ship. I have eaten this many times. All of their products taste wonderful.

Oh, Big Sky has good bread, too. But although some of their breads use the same ingredients as Great Harvest, there's something done differently and their bread doesn't have the same texture and flavor as GH. At either place, check to see what they use for sweeteners--some GH use high-fructose corn syrup, and I see that in the Big Sky breads here, too.
And I forgot about the no-knead bread recipe--it's great! I've added things to it sometimes (sunflower and flax seeds) and it's very good! _________________ "If you're not hungry enough to eat an apple, you are not hungry." --Emma Fogt

Ivy, thank you very much for all those recipes. Great of you to remind us about them and a special thank you to Jan.
They are just great to have for company, holidays and pot lucks.

Also Walmart carries a legal bread. It's whole wheat pita...don't remember brand name. They usually carry it in the deli section, not the bread section. Check the lable...it should have only basic ingredients and no oil.
