Terry's Progress

Postby TerryP » Mon Dec 29, 2008 4:44 pm

Hello Everyone,

I would like to check in every Tuesday and post my weight here if that's all right with you all. I think it's going to give me the much needed overdue reality check I need. I'm so tired of wasting my time and my life never reaching my goal and playing games with my health as I know I'm on thin ice. I'm so tired of not succeeding over and over. Every day every year I tell myself I'm going to do it this time and yet, fall off the wagon again and again as I watch another day and year go by so fast. I went through the 10 program in 2005 and really had high hopes for myself. I'm ashamed to admit that I have not been able to lose the weight and this has got to stop. I feel this is my second home and is the best place to be true to myself. I have a good start and know how to succeed now. So I will be following the MWL program and weighing in every tuesday. Thank you for allowing me to do this!

No, afraid not. I’m between pets at the moment. After my house sells I plan to adopt a new doggie.

Just Checkn' In

Postby TerryP » Tue Dec 30, 2008 2:06 pm

Well, as promised I'm checking in for my very first Tuesday and start of the MWL program. I'm 54. I'm female and weighed in at 277.5 this am. I've also been going through menopause for years. LOL What torture but since I started changing my diet some years ago my hot flashes have decrease substantially, and thank goodness to. But I have that against me and being female according to Dr. McDougall. Well, anyway just checkn' in and will be back next Tuesday. Although I do check in on the boards often.

Letha good luck with the house selling it's a lot of work. I enjoy watching HGTV on House Hunters as well as International House Hunters. Actually I love everything about HGTV. LOL And when you get all settled in your new home getting a pup will be wonderful, that's great. Take care.

Hi TerryP,

Good to meet you. I just wanted to give you some encouragement in doing the McD program while in menopause.

I started McD back in October 2005 at age 53 and 256 pounds. Nine months later I weighed about 153 and have pretty much stayed in that range since then. That's size 10 jeans for me.

I did (and still do) the regular program. I walk about an hour a day and use my rebounder most days of the week.

Best of luck to you in this journey. It's a great adventure that you won't regret.

Hi herbgirl,

I'm so glad to meet you. I sure appreciate your comments on Menopause. Your words of encouragement give me hope and I need all I can get. This menopause stuff is for the birds LOL. Congratulations on your success back in 2005 and continuing. That's quite a bit of weight loss in nine months and I must say is very impressive. I'm truly so happy and proud of you for succeeding. Take care and thanks again!

Hi TerryP It is nice to meet you. I too am female in my late 50's. Last time I was tested, they told me I was not done with menopause yet. I agree, what a drag it is.

I lived in Southern Calif for a decade during the 80's. I'm kind of glad to be out of the freeway traffic. California has more McD friendly restaurants than Florida does. And the honeydew melons taste so much better out there.

Are you going to enter the sweepstakes for the HGTV dream home in Sonoma? I'm watching it now.

Hi Terry in FL;-)

Yes, I have heard menopause can last a very long time, what fun. LOL So you live in Florida, I bet you love the warm weather.
Yes, as a matter of fact I just entered hgtv tonight! LOL Now if I could just win that gorgeous Sonoma CA home I would move there and be that much closer to Mcdougall Land, now that would be a dream come true! LOL

Very glad to meet you to! I'm glad you stopped by.

Hi Letha,

Nice to hear from you. I am actually having a wonderful Mcdougall day. Things are going well thank you for asking. Now if I could just get over the stresses of all the projects I need to start working on before spring I'll be just fine and dandy. LOL
Have a wonderful day as well!

As I promised myself I am keeping track of my MWL Progress here on the forum.

Down, 4.5 lbs this week.

That's the most I've ever lost in one week and menopausal to boot! :) I followed the MWL plan but not 100%, although close. I had a tofu teriyaki rice bowl earlier in the week completely forgetting I was on MWL. Tofu is high in calories and isn't allowed on MWL, bummer. I've had to say NO to people quite often when it comes to socialising and there's food involved. They don't get it or maybe more simply don't care. This was no surprised to me however and I was already prepared to go to battle. :)
I also do a treadmill workout 6 days a week now for 30 minutes. I'm thrilled beyond words about this because the entire last year I could not walk for very long due to Planter Fasciitis. The pain was excruciating. So being able to walk again is especially amazing to me. It took a year to get rid of most of the pain, it's not all gone yet but close. Unfortunately, I also used it as another excuse for not getting exercise. I feel like I have my life back again now though. My walking definitely is speeding up my progress.

See you next Tuesday!
