A friend of mine just bought one of these, and she said the ice cream is delicious, so I just bought one. It makes soft serve ice cream using frozen bananas, and is a lot cheaper than a Vitamix. I can't wait to get it.

There's been a number of threads here about that dandy little machine. People are using not just bananas but all kinds of fruits, mostly berries, even a bit of cocoa powder. About the only major complaints have been about the noise, that it's a very LOUD machine.

I've read that they're noisy, but I can tolerate that as long as it doesn't take too long to make the ice cream.

I just noticed that Target carries these in their stores (at least where I live) for the same price as they're sold on Amazon.com. I'm debating if I should get one. I've already bought a lot of kitchen gear since coming to this site and reading all of the great recommendations!

I'll let you know how good/bad it is when I get it, danmc. The friend who recommended it to me, loves it. She also said it isn't really any louder than a blender.

I'm not concerned about the noise, I'm just not sure if it's worth $50 and another appliance to have some mashed up bananas. Since joining this forum I've bought: air popcorn popper, pressure cooker, cast iron skillet, rice cooker, cast iron wok.

Besides the fact that I've had to replace my pants twice...I've gone from a 36, to a 34, to a 32 waist! This McD stuff is really costing me! :-P

It's not all that noisy. I think the people who've complained likely did not defrost their fruit sufficiently. If the fruit is rock hard out of the freezer, the machine works much harder and the result is not creamy.

And it's not just mashed bananas. I made a tasty sorbet with a frozen tropical fruit mix from Costco: mango, papaya, pineapple, and strawberry. An alternative if you have a blender is just to make a fruit smoothie with a little added juice, water, or non-dairy milk. You could, theoretically, then refreeze that slightly to stiffen it up to ice cream texture.

It is Delicious!! You can also do the same thing with either a food processor or a high speed blender. It just takes a bit more time as you have to stop and scrape down the sides a few times. Also it's best if you let them thaw out a bit first so the bananas aren't rock solid. Experiment with different fruits too! Banana & Peach is awesome! I've also made banana/mango, banana/berry, banana/pineapple...all really good! You just need the banana for at least half the amount to keep that creamy consistency. I haven't tried it but I heard someone say that it's good with mint extract and carob powder and it taste like mint chocolate chip.

I got my machine today, and made my first batch of ice cream. I just made the plain banana, and it's delicious! I think it's well worth the price, especially considering the ice cream has no fat and satisfies the craving for ice cream. I've always been a big ice cream lover, so I'm extremely happy with it. It isn't very noisy either. I agree with Chile. People who said the machine was noisy, probably didn't defrost the fruit a little before they added it to the machine.

Here's a little hint. After the ice cream is made and in a bowl, add the tiniest dash of salt and mix it up. The salt will get rid of the flat taste, and aid in sweetening.

I don't think a food processor can get the same soft serve texture. I know with my yonanas I can make ice cream cones for my family and even swirl it around so it's pretty.
