I enjoyed reading Mike Teehan's story on P. 215 of the Starch Solution. His story is very similar to my brother in law who weighed in the 280's in 2008 and now weighs 158 at age 56 following a low fat vegan diet and exercising. Similar to Mike, my brother in law has improved all his medical numbers too, so thinner and healthier. I enjoy reading success stories with the plant based diet, but i've seen so much success in myself, family members and friends that I no longer have to be convinced by others that this diet works, I know it works.

Have you seen the video of Mike speaking at the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii's monthly lecture?

I found it to be motivational. I was taken back a bit at first by how "lean" he is, but I've since realized that my ideas about what looks healthy has been influenced by the norms of an overweight/obese society.

Rick, thanks for posting this. Being grossly obese myself, videos like this, where I can actually see a thin person who used to be close to my weight, are so inspirational. There's something about video that trumps text or static pictures.

I'll be watching this with sound as soon as I get home tonight.

As for him being lean, I've actually started reading up on calorie restriction practitioners. Then again, me thinking about being CR is sort of like sitting down at a piano for the first time and planning on playing Carnegie Hall

Thanks for the link Rick. I watched the video and now I feel like I know more about Mike's story. An interesting part of the talk for me was the referencing of information from the various doctors, including Dr. McDougall. I can see how and why Mike inspires people.

BTW- There are some very good videos from the Hawaiian Vegetarians. I've seen at least 3 other videos, all very informative.
