Shevaun, you are going to start feeling so good, so fast, you will be amazed. You've already noticed how much more energy you have.

I noticed that you are only a few points away from being pre-diabetic. So kudos on you for taking your health future into your own, obviously very capable, hands. The next time you have your glucose taken, don't be surprised if your doctor thinks the labmade a mistake because it will have dropped while eating "all those starches."

Your daily food looks great, so simple and nutritious. Its amazing how quickly simple food goes from "bland" to "delicious," isnt it? And to think of the gift you are giving that preciousm4-yr old of yours... Your health plus the child's future health by introducing him/her to this way of eating so young.

Oh, and i totally believe in food addiction. Plenty of science to back that up, too. One reason i think you are doing so well is because you have come to recognize the addictive qualities of foods, and you are scrupulously avoiding those. It took me years to get to that place, and now am just learning how to recognize and eliminate those trigger foods.

Keep up the good work Shevaun. And when the moments of temptation inevitably come along, post here and you will find the support to see you through!

Shevaun, you are doing great! The fact that you recognize that pretzels aren't a "good" snack, the way you are managing to wait out your cravings... honestly you are doing awesome.

Funny we were observing the same things today. I was at the big "health food" store (like a small Whole Foods) today and it hit me that every manager in there, and the vast majority of the people at the hot/cold food bar inside, were significantly overweight or obese. I am too, so I'm not judging them; I just wonder how many of them felt like somehow what they were eating was healthier because the food is "organic" and some of it's "local." I couldn't have anything on the hot or cold bar except veggies from the salad bar, because every single item was swimming in "healthy" canola or olive oil. Even the dairy-free mashed potatoes contained canola oil!

Keep up the good work.

HURRAY AND CONGRATS!!!

<> <> <> <> (that's the sound of me clapping :D )

No surprise at your success Shevaun, you are really sticking to the plan.

I'm really happy for you!

I read your post over at Anna's about your Dad and am really sorry he had to suffer so much during his final years. And I'm sorry you don't have him around. He'd no doubt be very proud of the changes you are making.

No, I never went to jail for driving under the influence of cake and ice cream or got arrested for intent to distribute cheese pizzas but I still paid a price, just not a criminal one.

Shevaun, you weren't making a joke but nevertheless you made me chuckle: I once wrecked my car and got a ticket because I was trying to fish fresh pizza out of the box on the passenger seat while driving at night. Just couldnt wait until I got to my destination. Addiction, indeed.

You have everything to be hopeful for. You are making incredible changes that will improve not only your health, but many other aspects of your life yet to be revealed.

Hi Shevaun,
Your post about your dad is very poignant. It's a hard thing addiction. I have that in my own family.

Your husband's reaction reminds me of the early days when I went vegetarian and my husband was way less than sympathetic to the point that I abandoned being veg completely. Now I mostly am vegan with occasional mess ups and my DH is very supportive because he's learned a lot since then about food issues and because my health is better on a vegan diet (I have really high blood pressure & take medication which I'm trying to stop once I can adhere to the McDougall plan better). So hang in there with the oatmeal. Or alternatively, eat sandwiches with the family but make them McDougall friendly. If you're doing the maximum weight loss plan that's different of course.

Congratulations on the strong start you have made. I'm envious of all your walking because I love to walk but have a sore foot that make take some time to get better. For now I can walk a couple of miles but that's it.

What kind of knitting projects are you working on?

I think your dh may be feeling like your WOE is separating you from the rest of the family. Many people think of food as a way of creating a common bond in a family. There are several family traditions that center on food, so I think that his reaction may have something to do with it. He even said, "But I got it for all of us.".

I know my dh sometimes feels discouraged when he cooks something only to find out that I don't eat it. I know that he respects the way that I eat, but like your dh, he may feel frustrated or not fully understand this WOE. It's good that you are hanging in there and making some good food choices. I also like that you are not allowing it to come between you and your dh.
