I have yet another stomach flu. I can barely eat anything. Yesterday, I drank mostly liquids all day, and even those didn't sit well. I ended up taking gravol.

I have found two breakfasts that I actually enjoy and fill me up:

1) My own version of guiyo pinto (spelling?) Basically, plain rice and beans (Although I cook my rice in a delicious veggie stock).

2) My jalapeno-thyme rice and steamed potato, SO GOOD.

I'm also enjoying yoga. I'm starting off slowly but surely!

So...too many starches?

1) Rice w/ habanero, oregano, and thyme
2) Chickpeas
3) Roasted potatoes

Beside that mushrooms and cauliflower because I couldn't be bothered to cut up anything more!

So, my question is, too many starches? :D

I love this diet.

Hey Boots!

You know what Rosey, I have a hard time keeping my habanero-thyme rice in the fridge! Who'da thunk it!

Laugh I so believe that. My FIL and my DH both told me I've warped them. They are both eating spicier things since I've been here.

A family member told me yesterday, "I really like the way you've been cooking your rice lately!"

Things are going good for me here. I made sambar since it was a cold day, and I really liked the idea of just throwing stuff in the pressure cooker and letting it do all the work.

My favourite GF breakfast: My habanero-thyme rice + a steamed potato. Soooo good and filling!

Wow, it's been a month since I've posted in my journal.

I feel as if the last hurdle for me is sugar/processed almond milk. Other than that, I've had only minor IBS symptoms. Maybe the odd pain now and then (and that was when I would give in and have coffee). I'm also controlling my acid reflux by cutting that out. I do still have trouble swallowing from time to time.

I've been experimenting with cutting out on white sugar/drinking more water and seeing how that affects my hair loss. I have gone to the doctor to get blood tests done, however, I haven't heard back from him, so I think that's good news.

I can't see the day when I cut that out 100%, maybe for birthdays and holidays, and a coffee as a treat very rarely. However, now I am finding a really sugary drink to be just too much.

Lately I've been eating a lot of rice and beans. I love portabella mushrooms. I'm also still making my habanero-thyme rice. I experimented with making vegetable stock in the slow cooker, and it turned out fabulous! 10 hours on low. I did, however, add too many veggies and it might be a little strong. So, next time I do this, and I definitely will, I won't add as many veggies. So perhaps 2 carrots, 2 onions, 2 ribs celery, heck, I'll just post it in the recipe section!

Sometimes I go a little crazy without the sugar, but I think that I will get used to it in time. I've replaced it with eatting apples instead, which makes me happy. I find I need to eat a few more starches and get sugar that way instead of empty calories! :D

Hey Love,

Good to see you!! Does eating fruit help you with the sugar cravings? I'm not sure if you can have fruit or not due to your digestion issues. I know if I'm ever having a bad sweet tooth eating banana ice-cream or pineapple really helps. Hope this day finds you doing well

I never thought about fruit being a problem. In fact, long before I heard of Dr. M. I used to make an enourmous amount of juice with my vita mix. I mean everything went in: Beet, apple, kale, lemon, parsley, and ginger. Every morning. Then I would strain it out (I'm not a pulp fan). I would also make a smoothie every morning. This was when I made the vega recipe from scratch and threw it into ice cube trays for me to just blend up in the morning with a few other things. A LOT of work I tell you! However, I was SO healthy during that time. I also made sure that I drank a lot of water. However, I now know this was just compensating for all the oil I was putting into my food, and all the other junk I would eat.

Maybe I should consider eating green salads. But I don't like green salads! I should make myself like them, the same way I did with the dark leafy greens? Hmmm?

I'm still experimenting with the less sugar / more water experiment. I believe that the sugar is making my hair fall out and the extra water prevents it from happening. However, I can't just drink more water then have all the sugar I want. It also depends on the type of sugar/caffeine I have too. I've been going at this a while now, and I hope that this is just a simple solution.

B: Hashbrowns
L: Lentil curry, quinoa
D: Chickpea curry, cauliflower curry, quinoa, lime pickle
S: 2 apples
D: WATER, green tea
E: Crunches, push-ups, lunges, and maybe some yoga!

I found a way to cook Indian food so I really enjoy it, and it's not "gritty" from all the spices. I use fresh ginger, instead of frozen, and fresh chiles. I also keep the onion and garlic to a minimum. When you use fresh ingredients, I find that it is SO GOOD.

That's a lot of recipes...they are all from "The Modern Ayurvedic", by Amrita Sondhi. My favourite Indian cookbook. Not all the recipes are vegan, and I have to modify them to make them oil-free, but they always end up being delicious!

Today I busted my butt doing exercises. Since it was hot, and I still had my reservations about turning the AC on in May, I think I got a little heat exhaustion. Well, I turned the AC on after.

Anyways, I did almost 40 minutes on Wii fit. I did find them to be challenging in a good way though. I figured I can either scoff at the idea about exercising on that and not exercise, or, get off my butt and exercise! I obviously chose the latter.

Tonight I made more Indian food.

B: Chickpea curry, cauliflower curry, quinoa
D: Chickpea curry, potato-spinach curry, okra curry, quinoa
S: Apple, uttappa, lentil curry and quinoa
D: Water, coffee

Today was one of those days where I barely slept, and, in my fatigue the coffee pot automatically went on. :-(

Things are going well here.

I've been doing some exercises, and I find that the painful muscles are making me a little irritable, and I'm getting overtired way too easily. However, I am determined to get through it. I'm now up to 3 push-ups, yay! Today I did 30 minutes on the wii. Today I felt a little better. It's my legs that especially need the workout. I'm even considering starting to run outside, something that I have only attempted once or twice, but with company.

As for my health, I don't really want to report anything good except for when I am 100% better because I don't want to jinx anything. However, I would like to say that my IBS symptoms are WAY better than they have been in the past. After almost a year of seriously considering this lifestyle, things are looking good! I know what triggers it, and I know what heals it.

As for what is still holding me back, it's still the sugar and caffeine. Odd thing is, I think so often that I need it to cure some symptoms when in fact it makes things worse. I am doing very well though, a lot better than I have in the past, and that's the best that I can hope for.

I find that this WOE + any caffeine sends to trigger severe anxiety episodes. But, exercise is one thing that improves it. I hope that one day I find that diet, exercise, and self-work will help heal this problem.

B: Potatoes
L: Chana masala, curried cauliflower, quinoa
D: Lentil soup, probably masala dosa or idli, haven't decided
S: 2 apples
D: Water, coffee
E: 30 minutes strength training
