Power output measurement

Lani,

I do spin 4 times a week. I'd like to use a heart rate monitor iPhone app to accurately measure my power output. I plan to calibrate it with my max heart rate. Do you have any recommendations for apps/devices, and any pointers for getting the most accurate power output estimates? Does this estimated power differ from a power meter on a bike?

Thanks!

Hi ninehigh99,

Have you looked into the capabilities of a FitBit? Everyone who has one of these - and is sporting a wristband - loves them!

Thanks Lani. The FitBit is a beautiful product, and I looked into it. It's more designed for walking and running than biking and spin:

I might buy a Mio Alpha, because I really hate wearing a chest strap heartrate monitor:

(I haven't read the whole review yet.)

Let me know what fitness tracking toy you end up with ninehigh99! It can be very motivating to get some feedback - every single Fitbitter I've met tells me that they are hooked on matching steps or distance each day with an ideal. Sitting less and moving more - yay!
