I LOVE running, it took some discomfort at first but once your body acclimates to it the runners high is FABULOUS!
I also love Turbo Jam, it is a great aerobic workout with fun music and fun dance moves.

I think if you do the same exercise too often you get bored so I mix it up:

Turbo Jam
Running
Stationary bike for 60 min.
Yoga
Weight training
P90X
Slim in 6
The Firm workouts
Treadmill

This keeps it interesting and never boring.

I'm a runner, too. Which is the major reason why i'm starting to McDougall! I've always been on the heavy side, even when running a half-marathon and being in really good shape. No other diet would give me enough energy to run long-distance. But, this is perfect. It gives me enough carbohydates and protein to be an effective runner. I also weight train three days a week, and I love it! Weight training is a new thing for me, but I can REALLY see my body change because of it.

I run too! I love love love running! Even when it gets boring I prefer it to any other exercise. I am soooo happy that my husband and I invested in a good treadmill. We live in a rainy area and now when it's raining I don't feel like skipping my run anymore because I can just use the treadmill. Plus I like alternating the soft treadmilll surface with running on the street.

I was just getting started with it, when I had a personal medical problem become aggrivated because of the pounding. :-(

Went back to speed walking and hope to return to running in the future.

Feels too good to let it go. :)

I'm really envious of all you runners. I ran from 1981 until just 3 months ago when I had my hysterectomy. At my peak in 2003, I was running 35 miles a week, and doing 9 minute miles.

But my OB/GYN said I will greatly increase my chances of bladder prolapse after a hys. if I run. Soooo...

I have decided I'm going to be the fastest walker in the west!!! :D

So here is what I'm doing currently:

Brisk walk of 2 miles at 14 min. per mile rate. My goal is to do 4-5 mile walks every day at 13 min. per mile rate.

I am working out on the Soloflex on M, W, F.

If anyone would like to give me pointers on how I can increase my speed while walking, I would love to hear them. I actually feel kind of awkward walking, whereas running came so natural and fluid for me.

Thanks!

I work out on the Total Gym T, TH, and Sat.

I do alot of stretching, push ups, and crunches on M,T,W, TH, F, and SAT.

I LOVE the Firm work-outs! I have 3 different sets. I also enjoy tae-bo, his boot camp work-outs are awesome. I've been wanting to get Turbo Jam but hadn't heard a lot about it, I always thought it looked fun. You just made up my mind on that one!! I also want to get a rebounder! I totally agree, I definitely think you have to mix it up. I get bored so easily. Thats why I don't like gyms....

What a great thread you have going!!

I'm only doing Vinyasa (power) yoga right now. Mostly focusing on deep stretches, back and abs. Looking to start running in the cold in a few weeks.
Complementing the workout with the diet is quickly yielding results in only 2 months as the 6 pack beings to show its beautiful face.

Hummm I've never been told that about running after a hyst. I had one 3 1/2 years ago and I started doing short runs a few months ago.

I like running because I get bored doing gym or DVD exercises. Before I did not watch what I ate because I ran anyway but now that I am more mindful of what I eat for overall health and not just weight/physical appearance my energy level is higher and my body feels stronger.

It may be worth a check. I don't run just because of the joints. I walk outside which I hope does enough for the bones.

walking is great for the bones that is what I mainly do and when I do try to run it's barely faster then my walk. Laugh. I have issues with joints too but they have been TONS better since I've been eating this way.

My favorite exercise, as I've said, is indoors. Indoor walking/jogging in place with the Wii and Leslie Sansone dvds is what I usually do (along with yoga, strength and balances exercises). My sister who is a personal trainer was over Friday, and we got to talking about exercise and treadmills and how jogging outside would compare to what I do, and if it would kill me. So, she and I jogged around the block. A couple of times I had to drop back to fast walk. I guess I don't like the feel of the higher intensity I got jogging outside, though she assured me I wouldn't die because she knows cpr. :duh:

That is reasurring :)

The feeling between walking on a treadmill and outside is huge. Outside gets dangerous with the slopes of streets and sidewalks. It has to be harder on knees.

I like cardio more and do it in routine workout because these are more effective for the weight management and I am looking for the reducing some of my body weight. My favorite are jogging, running, swimming, and cycling for the fast weight reduction.
