I have been reading discussion board for some tome, vegan and eat a mostly plant based diet but really struggle to not have daily treats of vegan chocolate or a biscuit (cookie) - any thoughts about how to change my palate and 'need' for sugar fix and unhealthy snacks?!

The only way to lose the cravings is to eliminate the foods for some time. Taste buds change and your taste for different foods can be groomed to what you consume but all that is not an overnight transformation. All you have to do is start and let time do the rest.

When it comes right down to it, the only way to stop cheating is to stop cheating! There is no secret except that you have to want it enough to do it. Commit to not cheating and white-knuckle your way through the first couple of weeks. It gets easier and, usually after 3 or 4 weeks, the cravings will mostly disappear. And your tastebuds will change and you will find that there are amazing and subtle flavors in whole, unprocessed plant foods that you never knew were there.

thank you for the comments! You are both right- I just need to decide all or nothing. part of the problem has been having biscuits and chocolate in the house which makes cheating too easy! I need to stop making excuses like having them for people calling in etc and just knuckle down and allow myself to adapt to no sweets etc.

That's right! Now get them out of the house ASAP! I promise, the cravings will subside!

Do you keep some fresh fruit around to help you satisfy your cravings? We always keep some apples, pears, oranges or similar fresh fruit as an alternative to chocolate or cookies.

Yes I always have fruit but if the chocolate or sweets are there I will choose them! Time for a clear out! Cheers for the feedback

Have you tried "Cuties", those little clementines? They are nearly as sweet as some candies, IMO, and easy to carry with you and eat on the spot. I highly recommend them as "rescue" sweets.

thank you for the welcome advice! I have stopped having biscuits and chocolate in the house and have bought more fruit for treats and I have been amazed how much the treats are not missed when not available!
cheers.
