Cholesterol Levels

Postby vennes » Tue Aug 05, 2014 7:30 am

Hello,
I am a 50 year old male and I have been completely animal free eating since 7/7/2014. I went for my annual physical on 7/23/14 and my Cholesterol dropped from 150 (July 2013) to 108. My good and bad Cholesterol both dropped also and were reported as the same at 43. Is this ok or should I be concerned that the HDL has dropped?

Congratulations on great results!

The drop in HDL is completely expected and not a concern. HDL usually drops along with total cholesterol when on a whole foods, plant based diet. Yours is still above 40 which is better than most, but would still not be an issue even if it was below 40 with your very low total and LDL values.

Congratulations! Sounds like you are a poster child for plant based. :D

Congrats! There is NO reason to worry about HDL with low LDL. Period. Here's Dr. McDougall on the topic:

Trust me on this: One day you'll wake up and realize that it no longer feels like "being strict." It just feels GOOD. :)
