Anyone Up For A MM Challenge?

Hi Everyone! :)

I'm new to the forum and decided I want to kick off my Maximum Weight Loss journey with a Mary's Mini Challenge. Anyone want to join me? I'd love the company. :-D

I'm 41 years old and need to lose about 60 lbs. I live in Ontario, Canada, with my husband and 2 rescued cats. I once lost 50lbs with this WOE, but I put it back on and now I'm ready to part with it for good!

MM Guidelines: http://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2006nl/june/marys.htm

Today is Day 1 of my MM challenge:

B: Hash browns
L: Hash browns with home-made salsa
D: Boiled potatoes with mushroom gravy and a big green salad

Hope to hear from others who would like to do this, too. :-D

Claudia

What exactly is the difference between MM and MWL? I read the article, but it just explained how you still incorporate starches, fruit, and vegetables. Is the difference that you only eat 3 meals a day? It sounds interesting and I would like to do the challenge as well. I just need more information on what to do. Thanks! :)

MM and MWL use the same principles, but MM adds an element of monotony. The plan is to choose ONE staple starch and use it as the basis of ALL meals. Potatoes are the most popular, but some folks prefer sweet potatoes or rice. By greatly reducing variety there is less "food reward" so you eat only when hungry and only enough to satisfy since otherwise it's pretty boring. It is based on observation of traditional diets around the world which usually revolve around one or two staple starches with a few seasonal fruits and veggies. Unlike MWL or the regular program, MM is intended as a short term "diet" and not a lifestyle, though you could if you wanted.

I'm starting tomorrow. I'm tired of losing the same 3 pounds over and over.

I hear ya! I've been doing that for 3 months now. I'll see how you like MM before I try it! No pressure!

Where did everyone go?

Day one was tough. I ate oats for breakfast and 2.5 hours later I was ready for lunch. Then I made some not so good snacking choices. On to another day. I decided not to put off my start anymore.

Today is better so far. I ate my usual rice with fruit for breakfast. 4 hours later I decided I'd better eat lunch. My body is releasing extra today which is very good sign. I'm also carefully watching my water intake. I've been struggling with it for too long.

B--white rice, rice milk, sugar/cinnamon, banana
L--brown rice and bean leftovers from last night with lettuce and some dressing. Dinner last night was Café Rio Salad. I left the tortilla behind last night and today.
D--will be Thai Tacos by fatfreevegan.

Julie, I probably don't do a true Mary's Mini, but you're welcome to take notes. Unfortunately, MWL is the only way to see any progress and keeping my starch as rice/beans seems to render the best results.

Hey,

So I did it for a week. I am not strict yet-- too stressed to be strict, so I keep slipping. I lost 2 pounds in spite of not being strict. I had potato soup for lunch and hashbrowns for breakfast. Dinner was not on plan.

I am having potatoes for breakfast this week-- hashbrows from baked potatoes to cut the time.

My head isn't in the right place, but in spite of that-- I am trying to make substitutions...
