Can this be used as part of the program?

seeds and nuts are rich foods. It's not something that McD recommends normally. I wouldn't use it on MWL for sure.

You're allowed 1-2 tbsp of ground flax seed/day for the Omega 3's, but I'm not sure if that's true on MWL or not.

I don't think a tablespoon of ground flax seed is going to hurt you or trigger a craving. I have 1T on my oatmeal most mornings. Dr. McD had whole flax seed on the table at breakfast in Santa Rosa, to help stay regular.
But I have to be careful, cause I find it can give me heartburn.

I know whole flax seeds are okay because they go through your body undigested (your digestive system can't penetrate the seeds). Ground ones, however, do get digested, so you might want to go easy on them.

Thanks all. I think I will have one tablespoon in my oatmeal daily.

I have a couple of DVD's of Dr Mcdougall and Mary doing the recipes and I could swear I heard him say ground flax seed was really good for you but you have to eat 5 TBS a day for it to do any good. Don't quote me but I want to watch again and double check. Some one else said Jeff N. said 1 TBS a day is good. I do eat 1 to 3 TBS a day myself.

Ground flaxseed mixed with water can make an acceptable egg substitute when baking. Say you want to make a lentil loaf and want something to help it stick together. You mix 1 TBS ground flaxseed with 3 TBS of water and beat it with a fork. After a few minutes, the flaxseed will swell and the water will start to look a bit like egg whites. Then its ready to use.
